Maria Jose began studying music at the age of seven participating in different choirs and pursuing a career in singing. She was chosen to participate in 7 different international choirs including a solo role as The Spirit in Dido and Aenea’s Opera in Vancouver 2010. She later changed her approach to music composition and her main instrument to the piano. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2015 from the University of the Americas Puebla (UDLAP). During her time at the University of the Americas Puebla Maria Jose participated in multiple recitals, and assisted with the production of numerous musicals and events (Aida, West Side Story, Wizard of Oz, and My Son Pinocchio, to name a few). Maria Jose believes that music is the universal language, it’s a way to share our emotions with people all over the world, and she was fascinated by ability music had to enhance of guide a narrative along with a visual aid, which eventually made her pursue a career in composition for the visual media. Maria Jose currently resides in Seattle, WA after finishing her Master’s degree in Film and Videogame Scoring at the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program at the Seattle Film Institute. Founded and taught by the two-time Emmy Award winning composer Hummie Mann.
